This year's theme is called "Sea Otter's Vision", based on a short story I wrote about having clear goals and overcoming the fear to pursue them.

The design is an original form line drawing of a Sea Otter swimming in the sea.

Excerpt from the beginning of the story:

It was a typical autumn day on the coast, with a misty rain drifting down from a white sky.  Everything was covered in fine droplets of water, including Sea Otter’s beautiful soft fur.  She sat on the beach, looking across the ocean towards where the next chain of islands must be, but could not see anything through the wet haze.

She wanted to move to a new place where there would be more room for her to grow.  She could clearly imagine what such a place would be like.  It was so real that she could see it in her mind like she was already there.  But in reality, she was unsure of the direction she needed to go. 

She hesitated to start out because of the risks.  What if she failed to make the journey?  What if it turned out to be different than she had imagined?...

Excerpt from the conclusion of the story...

...But, it wasn’t exactly as she had imagined.  It was even better, because she had overcome her fears and had worked so hard to get there. 

As she crawled out of the water onto the soft sand, the sun broke through the clouds and its light spread a warm blanket over her as she rested after her journey.  She smiled. It had been worth it all to turn her vision into reality.
